Smartphone kills children gradually
Smartphone is used by almost everyone in the world and every occupations such as directors, managers, workers, teachers, students, etc. Smartphone users are increasing time by time. According to (Alson & Misagal, 2016), increasing of smartphone users in the world reach 500 million user from 165 million for few years. Most of smartphone user are students under ten-years old. Some people believe that smartphone gives advantages for their children under ten-years old. Nevertheless, I strongly agree that children should not be allowed to use smartphone because it gives disadvantages for children under ten-years old.
First, they think smartphone is style for their children among their children’s friend in their schools. Children who use a newest smartphone will be assumed as popular and cool person. Even they don’t use them as intense as normal user. As example, when their children ask parents to buy them new update of smartphone, parents easily buy for them because want their children up to date and they will be not bullied by their friends. Then, children show their new smartphone to their friend and others assume they are cool and update children. Last, every students want to be popular because their smartphone and force themselves to ask their parent to buy smartphone for them.
In contrast, their achievement in the school becomes lower and lower because over using their smartphone. In accordance to (Manumpil, Ismanto, & Onibala, 2010) children’s achievement is interfered by their smartphone usage behavior because they feel happy when they use them and lose their interest to study. Children are addicted to their smartphone and use it almost whole day because smartphone can interfere children’s psychology. According to (Karuniawan & Cahyanti, 2013) significant aspect who gives influence to children’s academic stress is smartphone addiction. Children are also lazy to study inside or outside the class because they feel fun with their smartphones. Finally, children get bad achievement in their school because over usage of their smartphone. For example, children use their smartphone almost whole day to play games, chat on many social media, and other activities. Then, they are really fun and addicted to their smartphone, so, they want to use and use their smartphone every time. When they do not use their smartphone, they feel something wrong in their life and they do not interest to do many positive activities such as studying, playing with friends, do their assignments, etc. Those problems make them lack of interest to study at class in the school even at their home. So, they get low achievements in their study because over using their smartphones.
Second, some people assume that smartphone makes children easier to communicate with their parents, brothers, friends, and even new friends on online social media. Children just dial the destination numbers to call or text their family and friends as simple as smart the features of their smartphones. Children also can open many social medias as simple as they want to chat everyday because just “one click” they can open many social medias on their smartphones. Then, children can open many social media as long as they want to chat, communicate with their family and friends, and want to find new friend on social media. As example, when children want to call somebody such as their family, friends, etc., they just dial even just say the contact name of the destination number on their smartphones. They also can chat on social media or browse on browser easily by clicking the chat application features on their smartphones.
However smartphones make children easier to communicate, many of them use them to cheat during their examinations and tests. Cheating among students easily occurs during their examination by using their smartphone to find and share the answers (Gowthami & VenkataKrishnaKumar, 2016). They also easily share the answer of the tests or examinations through their smartphones. Then, they easily look for information on network using their smartphones. After that, even they have lack of preparation of study, smartphone helps them to cheat during their tests or examinations. For example, when students feel so hard to finish their tests or examinations because their lack of preparation of study. They try to easily open saved material documents which relate to their test or examinations in their smartphone. They also look for the answers easily by browsing the answer on network through their smartphones. Then, they try to ask their friends about the answer of tests or examinations. After that, they can easily communicate or discuss about the answers using their smartphones during their tests or examinations. Finally, smartphone helps them to cheating in their tests or examinations.
Third, some people believe that smartphone helps children to know everything in the world as simple as possible. Children can access the information or news about what just happened in the world by using their smartphone’s features. They also can know the news or update topics about the world by sharing with their friends on social media. Last, they share about new update news and topics with their friends and discuss them together in many occasions. For example, when children know about the update topics as “mannequin challenge” easily as they see in their smartphone’s features. They will share and discuss that topic with their friends because they think the update topic is always interest to discuss. Last, they want to try that update topic with their friend because they are feel challenged to try that.
On the other hand, children can easily open or watch adult contents on social media and networks on their smartphones. Anisah (2016) states that internet or one of smartphone’s features is one of the way to open adult or porn contents. Then, when children play eith their smartphone, there is appear adult advertisements on social media in their smartphones and they try to open them. After that, they are addicted to open adult or porn contents in their smartpohones without monitoring of their parents. Next, they try to look for many adult or porn images, videos, and games by do transaction with their friends using their smartphones. For example, when they play games or chatting, adult advertisements appear in those application suddenly. Then, they interest to open those advertisement and see or watch them gradually. After that, they are addicted to see or watch adult or porn contents, images, videos, etc. because they do that gradually. Last, they do a transaction those adult contents with their friends by transferring them using their smartphones.
In conclusion, I strongly agree that children should not be allowed to use smartphone overly without parental control or monitor because it gives disadvantages for them like decreasing their achievement in their school, cheating when they are having tests or examination, and they can open adult or porn contents in their smartphones. However, they can be allowed to play ewith their smartphone, the most important thing is parents can ndle or monitor their children’s usage of smartphone. So, hopefully parents can monitor their children when they play with smartphones to avoid children from negative effects of smartphone usage.
